Rest Day 3: Togian Islands, Kadidiri Paradise

While my Aussie cycle mates are elated over their new Prime Minister, there has been some dissent over the food offerings. These western style places are truly stingy when business is down. No drinking water was provided, no hand soap was provided, you had to ask for a towel (mine looked like one we wiped Venus down with,) we've run out of running water in the bathroom twice now. Dinner was delicious - very western flavoured but that's okay - but it wasn't enough for folks who have been cycling long distances. We had to ask for fruit for desert and then I ended up buying a package of cookies to share. Breakfast was two pieces of lemon loaf, papaya, banana and watermelon.

Fine for a beach day but I certainly hope we get protein for our ride tomorrow. If not I have a stash of cashews in the van...

All can be forgiven though for the spectacles under water.

It was a dazzling morning. No great schools of fish but there was a mesmerizing play of light and shadow across more types of coral than I have ever seen. Plenty of small colourful fish including an old favourite, the chomping parrot fish.

But first, the jelly fish lake. There were two types: the translucent disks and the hairy leg type. They weren't huge in number but there were lots and they seemed to be drawn to the surface by our floating bodies. I cleverly had the wrong settings on my camera and shot video instead of stills. Every once in a while one would bump my camera and give a little shiver. The water was very murky, green with light shafts piercing it. Very surreal.

I could have spent the day here or at the two other snorkel sites we stopped at.

Tide is coming in so time to have a look around the dock :-)

Oooooo!
