It was touch and go as to whether we would get here. The baby faced jet boat captain got turned around in some mangroves in an attempt to give us a "scenic tour." After three hours we arrived, got our rooms sorted, went for a swim and now am hammock bound.
Last night in Padapu, dinner was on time. All laid out on the table, and lots of it, hot and right at the appointed hour.
This was unusual on our trip so far. At the cost of racial stereotyping, I'm going to hazard that it's because the family who owns it is Chinese. It was a modest place - typical of where truck drivers would stay. I just had a room with a thin mattress and a table. Toilets and showers were shared - everything was clean.
Mendi is the method of bathing here. There is a cistern or bucket that one fills with (cold) water complete with a big ladle to ladle oneself with. Not unlike Japanese bathing minus the hot pools. Enjoyed staying here more than some of the "western" hotels that we've stayed at.
Our ride today was fairly flat with just two 200 meter bumps. Lovely warm breeze off the ocean. Lots of palm trees.
Another day of "hello mister," "hello lady," "hello friend."
I'm going to miss this :-)
Great bowl of noodle soup for lunch - almost quenched my pasta craving. Assuming they'll be some fishy for dinner. Come on 7p!
Tomorrow is an exciting morning - the Togians host one of a few isolated lakes in the world that contain stingless jellyfish. They have been isolated from predators for so long that they have lost their need for stingers.
Fun!
